No air support is reason why they retreated. Car bombs and suicide attacks were main reason. Also long supply route with out air cover was grave error in whom ever planned this offensive. Could have been very successful otherwise.

Effective air support could be ‘very’ cheap to achieve! All you need to do are… ‘flying technicals’. There are aircraft brokers site that gather sales from all around the world. You just need to buy propeller cargo airplanes from the 2nd hand market, you’d be puzzled at what price you could get 30, 40, 50y old perfectly working cargos. 400k$ for an An-26, 600/700k$ an An-12 or their chinese copies… Put a bunch of auto-canons onboard i.e several GSh-30-2 30mm/2 barrels/3k RPM or evn more destructive GSh-30-2 six barrels/6k RPM (!) , the anti-aircraft ZSU-57 (or ZSU-57-2 : 2 barrels)… Read more »

Seems like he’s saying that the Salamiyah-Ithriyah road is constantly under attack, especially at night. At 2:35, he’s describing an ISIS attack that used chemical weapons, probably chlorine (dozens were wounded with chemical burns). In the conclusion (5:20) he says that suicide bombers and chemical weapons were the most decisive tactics he saw used by ISIS, and he hopes that the SAA command will develop strategies to counter those tactics in the future.

You only need swimming goggles and a thick clothe humidified with liquid bicarbonate or even urine (yes, I know) to breath through and chlore is neutralized. Water works too but not so well. Old (working!) WW1 trick for the breathing filter… I’m near where the most horrible WW1 battle happened.
If chemical burns happen not only in the breathing system and eyes, but large nasty chemical burns on the skin, it may be mustard gas, but it’s really harder to manufacture. Any idiot can do chlorine
