Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei receives families on Iranian martyrs in Tehran, January 2, 2018.

DAMASCUS, SYRIA (09:25 PM) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei stated that enemies of Iran are using whatever means at their disposal in order to destabilise the country and threaten the Islamic Republic.

“During the events of the past several days, Iran’s enemies, using the various tools at their disposal, including money, weapons, politics, and security apparatus, have allied [with one another] to create problems for the Islamic establishment,” the Supreme Leader said during a weekly meeting with families of martyrs of the Iranian armed forces on Tuesday.

However, the Ayatollah said, “the spirit of courage, sacrifice and faith” that live in the Iranian nation will thwart these objectives by the country’s opponents.

Khamenei compared the situation to previous periods of threat to the Islamic Republic of Iran, notably the Iran-Iraq War of 1980-1988, stating that if the enemies of the Islamic Republic had been victorious, “they would have had no mercy and a situation considerably worse than that of Libya and Syria would have been created for Iran.”
