BEIRUT, LEBANON () – Reports (yet unconfirmed) are emerging that the Syrian Army and allied paramilitary forces have taken over a key town from US-backed forces on the eastern shore of the Euphrates.

The town in question has been identified as Junaynah, located just to the north of Deir Ezzor city (which is on the opposite side of the Euphrates but nonetheless nearby).

No real details exist regarding the reported event other than that US-backed forces retreated from Junaynah without a fight.

At the same time, US-backed forces stationed tens of kilometers further down the Euphrates have kicked-off a new offensive against Islamic State militants in a new bid to seize the terrorist group’s stronghold of Haijin.

Updates to follow.

The Syrian Government may have had a deal with the SDF regarding Afrin/Manbij and this could merely be quid pro quo. Right now the SDF and the Kurds are probably looking aghast at the shenanigans of their supposed partner, the USA.
