BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:10 P.M.) – A series of intense clashes broke out in the northern countryside of the Aleppo Governorate, today, after the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) attacked the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) near the town of Kaljibrin.

According to reports from northern Aleppo, the Turkish-backed rebels unleashed heavy gunfire and artillery shells towards the YPG’s lines; this prompted a response from the latter.

The tensions between the YPG and FSA have recently increased in the northern countryside of Aleppo, especially after the Turkish military sent reinforcements to the Jarabulus and Manbij front-lines.

With the Turkish elections out of the way, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will likely begin the process of launching a new military operation against the Kurdish-led forces in northern Syria.

It is worth noting that Ankara views the YPG and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) as offshoots of the outlawed Kurdsitan Workers Party (PKK).
