BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:20 P.M.) – France will remain inside both Syria and Iraq despite the withdrawal of the U.S. Armed Forces from the former, French President Emmanuel Macron said in a new statement on Thursday.

According to Macron, the recent terror attack in the Syrian city of Manbij is proof that the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) has not been defeated in Iraq and Syria.

Macron also stressed that France will continue being militarily engaged in the Middle East in the international coalition throughout 2019.

“The announced withdrawal of our American ally should not deflect us from our strategic objective to eradicate Daesh”, Macron said on Thursday addressing the armed forces in the French city of Toulouse.

France currently has a large military presence inside the provinces of Deir Ezzor and Homs; they maintain a small air base near the Euphrates River Valley town of Hajin.

Syria is much closer to EU and France than to the US. So France cares more.

Essentially the French presence can be positive. If France doesn’t obey the US.

p.s.France has been more into the defense of Syrian people including (ethnic group doesn’t matter – BTW they were mostly Kurds) minorities against IS (like my country – Germany).

Macron has only 20 % of support from the French people, he is undergoing the biggest unrest since 1968 when De Gaulle was ejected, if there will be losses among french troops he is finished, in fact he is already finished, France will end up like Italy and will withdrawal their troops, and for me it is a good thing, very good thing.

@NecroIslamoLeftist, since when does France send Frenchmen? It is the Legion that is overseas.

French left is against tax hikes and other measures.

Stern, keep in mind Syrians still remember how French gave Hatay to Turkey. Yes, France cares more but not sure if it’s for Syrian people…

@USR, France is there because of IS. And France is there for other reasons as well.

Actually, US only started to help the Kurds just before they crossed the Euphrates and liberated Manbij. US only started to deliver heavy weapons end 2017/early 2018 Germany and France are helping them since day one and France alone started air-strikes on roaches’ infestation in Syria BEFORE both Russia and USA+CJTF/OIR… I don’t think we’re into letting Erdogan invade Rojava (and do some genocide-by-proxy at the same time), at least, I hope so, moreover, it’s none of neighbours to Turkey’s interest (except maybe Iran) to end with an Ottoman Empire v2.0, especially led by a small looney with a moustache… Read more »

OT @Daeshbags-Sux, bet that French state owned Naval Group wants to build a carrier if the EU ever buys a fleet. But I doubt that France or we will ever need one for the defense of our home peninsula. In case of trouble a few well placed Thyssenkrupp stealth subs will be sufficient to dissuade any carrier fleet adding projection to trans Atlantic or Bearish interests in our waters.

Especially when they carry along some French de frappe warheads. LOL.
