BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:20 P.M.) – Iraq’s Hashd Al-Sha’abi (var. Popular Mobilization Units) forces reportedly blocked a U.S. patrol unit that was attempting to conduct a “suspicious survey” along the Syrian border, Iraqi activists reported on Tuesday.
BREAKING: Reports that members of #Iraq’s Hashd (PMUs) “prevented” an American military unit from conducting a “suspicious survey” of Iraqi military units at several positions along the Iraqi-Syrian border. The US troops were forced to return to a nearby base.

According to the reports, the commander of Hashd Al-Sha’abi’s forces in the Al-Anbar Governorate said that the U.S. troops were asking Iraqi soldiers a number of questions about their combat points, manpower, and amount of ammunition and weapons they had in the area.
According to Qassim Muslih, the Hashd’s Anbar chief, the US troops were asking Iraqi soldiers about:
•the number of combat points along the border,
•no. of troops at each point,
•amount of ammo & types of weapons they had.Muslih called it a violation of #Iraq’s sovereignty. https://t.co/CwuTDG4MeH

Hashd Al-Sha’abi is currently deployed along the vast Deir Ezzor-Anbar border, which links western Iraq with eastern Syria.
The Iraqi group works hand-in-hand with their country’s army to monitor the border and ensure the security of this province.
