BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:10 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) launched a desperate offensive in the eastern part of the Euphrates River Valley last week as their recent string of losses left them with their backs against the wall.

However, this Islamic State offensive would be short-lived and limited in terms of success due in large part to the heavy airstrikes by the U.S. Coalition and stout defenses of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Following the Islamic State’s large-scale offensive last week, the Syrian Democratic Forces launched a heavy attack to drive back the terrorist group from the key town of Baghouz Fouqani and capture nearby Murshida.

Thus far, the Syrian Democratic Forces have managed to enter Murashida, while also retaking several points they lost to the Islamic State the week before.

Once Murashida is captured, the Syrian Democratic Forces will just have to clear the town of Bagouz Fouqani and they will have secured the eastern region of the Euphrates River Valley.

IS remaining in part of two small villages and a bit of countryside in between. Likely some remain hidden in tunnels and the like. I hope SDF got to capture some armoured cars and tanks, to be used against Turkey.
