BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:20 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) launched a big assault on the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions in the eastern countryside of the Homs Governorate on Tuesday.
ISIS began their assault by storming the Syrian Arab Army’s checkpoints north of Al-Sukhnah city; this resulted in a series of heavy clashes for much of Tuesday morning.
According to a military source in nearby Palmyra, the Islamic State fighters hit the towns of Rasm Al-Koum and Tuwinan, which are just south of the Al-Raqqa Governorate axis.
The source said several Syrian Army soldiers were killed as a result of the attack in the Al-Sukhnah countryside.
Since this Islamic State attack, the Syrian Arab Army has sent reinforcements to this front in order to secure the area between northern Al-Sukhnah and Al-Rusafa.
The Syrian Army has had a great deal of trouble at this front over the last two months, as the Islamic State uses the mountains in the area to launch ambushes against their forces.
