BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:20 A.M.) – Over the weekend, Russian officials condemned the Israeli attacks on Syria that have become a weekly event.
Leading the condemnation was the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, who said these Israeli attacks were a violation of international law and a deterrent to the Syrian peace settlement.
Following Zakharova’s condemnation, the Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Sergei Rybakhov said in a statement that Israel’s security is of the utmost importance to the Russian Federation; however, they must halt their strikes because they are illegal.
Literally hours after Rybakhov’s comments, the Israeli military attacked the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions at the border, resulting in the destruction of two garrisons and the Quneitra Hospital.
While it is still not clear why the Israeli military attacked the two Syrian Army garrisons, the Quneitra Hospital was turned into a base by Jabhat Al-Nusra during the war and it was believed to have a network of tunnels.
Despite the low intensity of the attack, Israel has demonstrated time-and-time again that they can attack the Syrian military at will, regardless of Russia’s approval.
