BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:15 A.M.) – A number of Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers were killed this week after a group of jihadist rebels carried out an ambush in the northwestern countryside of Hama.
Led by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham, the jihadist rebels struck the Syrian Arab Army’s positions at the Al-Athar Checkpoint that is located just south of the historical town of Qal’at Al-Madiq.
The jihadist attack on the Al-Athar Checkpoint resulted in over ten Syrian soldiers being killed and several others being wounded.
The Syrian Arab Army has since responded by firing several surface-to-surface missiles towards the jihadist defenses in the Qal’at Al-Madiq area and Al-Ghaab Plain.
Since the start of April, the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham have stepped up their hit-and-run operations against the Syrian Arab Army and their allies.
Most recently, the jihadist rebels killed over 30 Syrian soldiers between the Aleppo and Hama governorates in the last week alone.
In response to these attacks, the Russian Air Force has launched several airstrikes over the jihadist positions in the northwestern region of Syria.
These airstrikes have done little to deter the jihadist rebels from launching these attacks; instead, they have stepped up these hit-and-run strikes to further antagonize the Russian and Syrian armed forces.
