BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:10 P.M.) – The jihadist rebels have expanded their assault in Latakia, today, to the town of Slunfeh in the northeastern part of the governorate.
According to a local source, several grad missiles struck Slunfeh around 5:45 P.M. (local time), causing a number of explosions inside the mountainous town.
No casualties have been reported as of yet.
The Russian military currently has a large presence in the area, as Slunfeh overlooks the Al-Ghaab Plain from its western flank.
Furthrermore, Slunfeh sits atop of the mountains that overlook much of northeastern Latakia; it has provided the Russian military an important observation post in the region.
