DAMASCUS, SYRIA (6:50 P.M.) – Local reports from Eastern Ghouta claim that Liwaa Erbein, a rebel group led by Abu Al-Joud and active in the town of Erbein to the northeast of Damascus, has defected from the dominant Islamist faction of Faylaq Al-Rahman in the rebel-held town.
In response, the Faylaq Al-Rahman command center deployed its fighters in an attempt to recapture the town from Liwaa Erbein, but they have been repelled outside.
Five militants from the Faylaq were killed, 30 others wounded as a result of the clashes with the rival group. In a daring speech, a Abu Al-Joud leader stated that Erbein is his own town and he will defend and protect it against any strangers.
It worth mentioning that Erbein acts as the focal point linking the besieged Eastern Ghouta region with Al-Qaboun and Barzeh, two insurgent-controlled neighborhoods currently under heavy attack by the government forces.
Reports had it that an active tunnel goes through Erbein has become the final and only link between the two rebels bastions.
