BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:20 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has begun a new operation in northwestern Syria that is targeting the imperative Zuwayqat Mountain that overlooks the northern part of the Al-Ghaab Plain.
According to a military source on Wednesday, the Syrian Arab Army sent a massive military convoy to the town of Joureen, which is located along the Latakia-Hama axis.
Not long after these troops arrived, the Syrian Arab Army began heavily bombarding the nearby towns of Sirmaniyeh and Kabani in a bid to weaken the jihadist forces in the area.
The Russian Air Force then launched a massive assault along the Idlib-Latakia axis, hitting several jihadist sites in these governorates, including the key city of Jisr Al-Shughour.
As shown in the map above, the Syrian Army is targeting Sirmaniyeh and Kabani because both towns overlook the Al-Ghaab Plain region that is under the control of the jihadist rebels.
Furthermore, capturing these two towns will give the Syrian Arab Army a significant advantage when pushing towards Jisr Al-Shughour from the Latakia Governorate.
As of now, no gains have been reported by the Syrian military.
