Secretary-General of Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah urged the Arab countries to withdraw from the the Arab Peace Initiative during the ongoing Arab League Summit in Tunisia, as a response to US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. Nasrallah made the televised address from an undisclosed location in Lebanon on Tuesday.

“If there is any remaining honour, conscience and magnanimity in the Arab world and the Arab states, the summit of Tunisia will announce the withdrawal from the Arab Peace Initiative, which was decided at the Beirut Summit in 2002 and return to the point of zero,” said Nasrallah.

“After the Golan [Heights recognition], we have to expect, on any given day and hour, that Trump will emerge on the Arab and Islamic worlds and declare recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank,” he added.

On Monday, March 25, US President Donald Trump signed a declaration recognising Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, a territory the Israeli state captured from Syria in 1967. Israel subsequently annexed the Golan Heights in 1981, in a move that was not recognised internationally.

Trump announced his intention via Twitter on March 21, prompting heavy criticism from Syrians and their officials. Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the UN Bashar Jaafari also said that Trump’s recognition was ‘nothing more than a recipe for more wars.’

The war which is the alternative to the peace process – is no alternative at all. About the Golan Israel and Syria must return to UNSC res 242. Especially Israel must accept the UN Charter principle in 242 that is: “Emphasizing the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war”. Israel, Syria and also Hezbollah must accept: “Termination of all claims or states of belligerency and respect for and acknowledgment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or… Read more »

@Daeshbags-Sux, read 242: Emphasizing the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war …
1. Affirms that the fulfilment of Charter principles requires the establishment of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East which should include the application of both the following principles:
(i) Withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict;

After confirming the the “inadmissibility”… the should is not the optional provision that You want.

And for the record, 67 was an preemptive Israeli attack.

@Daeshbags-Sux, no. UNSC res. 1701 disarmament clause is based on provisions of resolution 1559 (2004) and resolution 1680 (2006). 1559 does only call not order “3. Calls for the disbanding and disarmament of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias; ”

UNSC res. 1701 laments: that is not done. So that there still are weapons without the consent of the Government of Lebanon…

p.s. Reading non military documents seems to be none of Your strengths.

gzman501 .

Jaafari has it right. This is nothing more than Israel’s attempt to create more animosity. All it took was a whisper from Bibi’s lips to Trumps ear. Trump proves once again how embedded he is in the Zionist camp.

Nasrallah knows that Assad has no chance of taking Golan. But Assad’s days are numbered. Assad loses elections and then the Turkish army takes Golan.
