BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:50 P.M.) – On Friday, the Syrian Army and allied Palestinian forces scored a key breakthrough against Islamic State defenses in southern Damascus’ Al-Qadam district.
The advance saw Syrian pro-government forces capture the local industrial area of the Al-Madaniyah neighborhood, located in the northern part of Al-Qadam. Here a scrapyard and surrounding factory buildings were seized.
The battle related to the breakthrough in Al-Qadam has been raging for the last three days with the capture of Al-Madaniyah being achieved during storming attempt made on the night of Thursday to Friday.
Non-stop Syrian and Russian airstrikes and shelling by Syrian Army rocket forces – which virtually flattened ISIS defenses in the area – played a key role in paving the way for the advance.
