BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:20 A.M.) – In his speech, the Pope advocated for the end of war and violence and mentioned the role religions must play during turbulent times.

“Human fraternity requires of us as representatives of the world’s religions the duty to reject every nuance of approval from the word ‘war’. Let us return it to its miserable crudeness. Its fateful consequences are before our eyes. I’m thinking in particular of Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Libya.”

Earlier on Monday, Pope Francis attended an official reception ceremony at the Presidential Palace, hosted by the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed. The Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum were also present.

Later in the day, Pope Francis visited Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, where he discussed interfaith dialogue with the Grand Imam of Egypt’s Al Azhar Ahmed el-Tayeb.

The historic two-day visit of the pontiff to the Arabian Peninsula started on Sunday night when his plane landed at the Abu Dhabi airport.

The official visit will conclude on Tuesday when Pope Francis will deliver an open-air mass at Zayed Sports City, an event expected to be attended by some 135,000 people.

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.

He visits a country whose government finances and arms thugs whose specialty is to destroy churches and kill Christians. He should have stayed home and launch a protest against these ‘people’ from his palace.

He visits nearly all countries where there are Christians and even others since he’s a head of state.
AFAIK, it’s MBZ who even advised MBS to have KSA stopping funding extremists and MBS followd his advice. The arrest of many princes who got serious fines wasn’t about corruption : several names are well known to have funded waharabids for long.
Now pope Francesco is losing his time : Allah is NOT YAHWEH, it’s Ba’al cult under disguise. actualy, under Moses’ law (Leviticus), al Muslims would have been stoned to death for idolatry, LOL!

Which Palestine? Arab-Palestine AKA Jordan or Jewish-Palestine AKA Israel or the Arab-occupied territories into Israel like Judea-Samaria (you know, where Bethlehem, the birthplace of a guy named Jesus, stands) or Gaza where Samson destroyed the Philistines’ temple (Philistines were Greeks from Crete BTW, and it’s from a Hebrew word meaning ‘invaders’).
IMHO, the Pope would like the bells to ring in Bethlehem instead of a muezin barking praises to Ba’al…
