According to a Russian senior defence ministry official, as reported by Press TV, Turkey continues to support terrorists in Syria by providing them with reinforcements through Turkish territory.
The ongoing support is made possible via the the Turkish-Syrian border, where militants are allowed to travel from Turkey to the north-east Latakia region.
“Despite efforts of the international community directed at stopping any support to terrorists, new recruits regularly arrive to the north-eastern part of Latakia province from the Turkish territory,” Lieutenant General, Sergey Rudskoy said to journalists on Monday.
Moscow has previously accused Ankara of collaborating with ISIS terrorists in the illegal smuggling and selling of oil from ISIL held areas in Syria.
Former US foreign policy analyst, James Jatras said that it is clear Turkey is a “state sponsor of terrorism”, adding that the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s rationality should be questioned.
“It is quite clear that [Turkey] are not backing away from their support for terrorism in Syria, even as their goal for overthrowing the Syrian government is looking less and less likely.” he said in an interview with Press TV.
Russian officials have stated that Turkey’s actions contradict international efforts to stop support from reaching extremists.
