BEIRUT, LEBANON (07:47 A.M.) – South Korea has increased its reward to $860,000 for North Korean defectors who can offer secret and exclusive information about the country.
Originally, Seoul would pay informations $217,000.
The amount will be given to “people who provide intelligence and knowledge that can enhance South Korea’s security” said a report from the Yonhap news agency on Sunday.
The report also said that soldiers who gave up with their weapons would also receive an undetermined amount.
“One of the biggest reasons why North Koreans are hesitant about defecting is because they are fearful of [how they would make a living] after they come to South Korea,” the report cited a South Korean official as claiming.
