BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:45 A.M.) – U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted on Sunday evening that he was “hearing word” that Russia, Syria, and to a lesser extent, Iran, were indiscriminately bombing the Idlib province.
“Hearing word that Russia, Syria and, to a lesser extent, Iran, are bombing the hell out of Idlib Province in Syria, and indiscriminately killing many innocent civilians. The World is watching this butchery. What is the purpose, what will it get you? STOP!”
Last year, Trump tweeted something similar in regards to the Syrian government’s attack on the Idlib province. He would later take credit for halting the Syrian military’s operation in Idlib, despite an agreement between Turkey and Russia to implement a ceasefire and demilitarized zone around the province.
In regards to Iran, the country is not involved in the northwestern Syria campaign, as this is currently led by the military forces of Syria and Russia.
The Syrian military’s operation in northwestern Syria began in early May; it has resulted in the capture of several areas in the Hama province, including the jihadist strongholds of Qal’at Al-Madiq and Kafr Naboudeh.
